BEAUTY | DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE

You’ll find that my morning skin routine is much simpler than my nighttime routine, which is great for gals who aren’t big on mornings [hi! that’s me!]. Here is what I do before putting on my makeup:

STEP ONE: Wash face with Tula Purifying Face Cleanser – I cannot say enough great things about Tula products! They are gentle, great for all skin types and free of parabens, mineral oil, petrolatum, phthalates, propylene glycol, which prevents clogged pores, breakouts and blackheads.

[see the entire list of ingredients here]

I have tried a lot of skin care products over the years and NONE have completely changed my skin the way these products have. If you’ve followed me for a long time, you know that I used to break out pretty frequently. You would see them on my downward facing selfies, no matter how much I tried to hide them with makeup or a filter. I started using these products in March and have been so impressed with how my skin has changed for the better. I’ve only had one breakout and I think it was because I was traveling a lot and my skin was exposed to multiple weather conditions in a short amount of time.

This particular cleanser is an all-in-one foaming wash. It removes makeup, cleanses pores and nourishes skin. It ultimately gives you a more radiant complexion.

STEP TWO: Apply Tula Illuminating Face Serum – This serum contains a probiotic that boosts dull looking skin, helps to diminish the appearance of dark spots and promotes a fresh, youthful looking glow.

STEP THREE: Apply Tula Hydrating Day & Night Cream – This product is like a multivitamin for your skin! It is considered age-defying, contains a probiotic, nourishes and hydrates the skin and, if used every day, reduces the appearance of fine lines, which is perfect for us ladies who have recently said hello to our 30’s! The name implies that you apply it twice a day, and you can, but I personally only apply it once, just like a normal multivitamin, because my skin tends to be more oily in the summer. I typically apply mine at night but if you have normal to dry skin, I’d recommend following the normal instructions to apply this after the Illuminating Face Serum in the morning and at night.

STEP FOUR: Wait a few minutes before applying my makeup – I tend to do my skincare routine, then go make my coffee, my breakfast, my bed, plug in my curling wand, take Fish outside, etc before getting started on my makeup just to give the products time to absorb into my skin!

It’s pretty quick and easy, which I love! You can shop all the items I use during my morning routine in the widget below! TULA is being super generous by offering y’all 25% off their products now through June 30th! Do not wait. Stock up now! You need these products. COUPON CODE IS AT THE END OF THE POST!

My night time skin routine has been a work in progress for years and I can honestly say I’m finally seeing noticeable results by doing the following:

STEP ONETake off makeup – This may be the most tedious part of the routine, but it’s also the most important part. Do not let yourself get deterred. You should NEVER go to sleep with your makeup on!

I’ve used Ponds Make-up Removing Wipes for years and swear by them! They do such a great job getting everything off of my face before I wash it. You can get them at Target, Wal-Greens, CVS, etc. but there are lots of different makeup removing options, depending on your personal preference. Here are a few options for you:

STEP TWO: Wash face with Tula Purifying Face Cleanser – At this point, you’ll basically repeat the three steps from your morning skin routine! Again, this particular cleanser is an all-in-one foaming wash. It removes whatever makeup wasn’t removed with the clothes. It also cleanses pores and nourishes skin, ultimately leaving you with a more radiant complexion.

STEP THREE: Apply Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner to cotton ball then wipe all over face – This is a recent step that I’ve started taking so, since these photo’s were taken back in April, there are no photo’s of this product in today’s post. This toner is the perfect resurfacing agent to get your skin ready and ideal for moisturizer application. It removes ANY remaining residue and surface debris that may still be on your skin and you don’t want getting into your pores. What I love is that it doesn’t dry out your skin in the process. I may have oily skin but it’s good for your skin to have SOME moisture to it, so that makes this a great product. It’s pretty inexpensive and receives great online reviews from other users, and is currently on sale!

STEP FOUR: Apply Tula Illuminating Face Serum – This serum contains a probiotic that boosts dull looking skin, helps to diminish the appearance of dark spots and promotes a fresh, youthful looking glow.

STEP FIVE: Apply Tula Hydrating Day & Night Cream – Again, this product is like a multivitamin for your skin!

STEP SIX: Gently pat a small amount of Tula’s Revitalizing Eye Cream to undereye area – This product hydrates the delicate skin around your eyes, reducing fine lines, dark circles and puffiness and, I promise … you will feel it working instantly. It’s anti-aging formula tingles as it settles in to your skin. I love it. It’s great for any skin types, but especially dry skin. This product is amazing!

morningandnighttimeskinroutinetulaskincaresequinsandthings00022 morningandnighttimeskinroutinetulaskincaresequinsandthings00025

STEP SEVEN: Untangle eyelashes with a small lash brush then apply Neulash to lash line – Okay, so I realize ‘brushing your eyelashes’ sounds pretty diva-ish but … how many times have you not gotten all your mascara off at the end of the day, then it was really hard to put it on the next day and they look like they’re all holding hands? This little brush makes it very clear if I have some more work to do in the mascara removal process. Now that my skin care regimen is pretty extensive, I don’t typically have much left to remove so it’s pretty easy to just swipe through them a few times.

morningandnighttimeskinroutinetulaskincaresequinsandthings00013 morningandnighttimeskinroutinetulaskincaresequinsandthings00026 morningandnighttimeskinroutinetulaskincaresequinsandthings00028

Then, I apply Neulash, a lash enhancing serum, to my top lash line. If you’ve ever wanted to invest in getting eyelash extensions or frequently wear eyelash extensions, give this stuff a try! It works great! I’ve always had long lashes, personally, but I’ve seen noticeable lengthening for much less than it costs to get eyelash extensions and maintain them.

STEP EIGHT: Apply moisturizing lip balm to lips – I personally use Jack Black’s Intense Therapy Lip Balm with SPF. It’s an ’emollient balm that soothes and relieves dry, chapped and irritated lips’. I’ve used it since I lived in Colorado and have never liked anything as much as this product. But, there are other products out there that aren’t bad like Laniege’s Lip Sleeping Mask, Pixi’s Nourishing Lip Polish and sara happ®’s lip exfoliator & lip balm set! Shop those options here:

morningandnighttimeskinroutinetulaskincaresequinsandthings00030

These products soak in to your lips overnight and you will wake up with beautiful, nourished, and supple lips! It’s probably my favorite result of my skin routine. I despise having chapped lips so it’s the best feeling to wake up and see that these products have made a noticeable difference!

And that’s it! After that, I crawl into bed with this little nugget baby!

Here are some other skin tips I have for you guys:

– Twice a week, I will typically apply Tula’s Exfoliating Treatment Mask. It helps to dig in a little deeper to wash away old skin cells to hydrate your skin even more. I let it dry and stay on my face for about 5-10 minutes at night after I wash my face. Once I wash off the mask, I continue my skincare regimen from the Illuminating Serum down.

– Your skin will retain it’s moisture more if you keep yourself hydrated appropriately so drink LOTS of water, especially in the summertime. I’m still working on checking this tip off my list everyday, so I’m right there with you, guys!

– Accidental sun exposure is something that goes unnoticed for most, but it happens so make sure some part of your morning beauty routine involves applying SPF! I’m currently trying out products that I want to fill this space in my routine and I will absolutely let you know when I find the one I like the best!

– With that said, about accidental sun exposure, especially during the summer months, it’s extremely important to start an anti-aging skin care routine as early as your mid-twenties. This will help to prevent the effects of the sun on your skin as well as the effects of aging before they even start!

I hope this post was helpful, y’all! Please let me know if you have any questions about today’s post by commenting below. I’d also love to hear what other posts you’d like to see from me in the beauty department! I’d be happy to get that in the works for y’all! Shop all of my skincare products below and, don’t forget! TULA products are currently 25% off with code SEQUINS25 at checkout through June 30th to shop their Black Friday sale early until it goes live tomorrow! They also come in travel size, as well! Thanks for stopping by, ladies! xo.

I totally agree with starting a healthy skin care routine early. Wearing SPF has been instilled in me since a young age and I am so thankful than I have not yet started showing signs of wrinkles! I have tried many day time moisturizers drug store to department store and my favorite is the Cera Ve brand that you can get at drug stores. It’s only about $12-$15 and feels light and does not feel greasy under my make up.

Hi Bunny! I agree, Cera Ve is a great product! I used it for years but decided to switch over to TULA to keep most of my skincare products consistent under one brand. xo.

Not to be rude, but a post IS sponsored if you are receiving the products for free. And it’s illegal to disclose that otherwise. See here: https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/ftcs-endorsement-guides-what-people-are-asking

Hi Trisha! It’s always been my understanding that, unless a company pays you for the feature, it’s not considered sponsored and I’ve never been one to shy away from sharing the way I work with brands. I always disclose if something is gifted to me and if a company is paying me for a post. However, the article you shared in your comment does prove what you said to be true so I stand corrected in terms of what the definition of a ‘sponsorship’ is. That’s really good to know because it’s definitely a common misconception among bloggers. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention and will make the appropriate changes to this post, although, I do feel like there could have been more tact applied to your comment.

I love the Tula products! The only thing was that the under eye serum actually dried the skin under my eyes a bit and you could see it through my under eye concealer as well. But I’m sure that was just an instance that happened with me, other than that I absolutely love the Products!

    Hi there,

Was your acne from regular breakouts or hormonal? I have cystic hormonal acne that can be quite stubborn so I’m always hesitant to try new products because nothing ever works. On a side note, I loved the grey dress in this post. Do you have a source? 🙂 Love your cute and comfy style.

    Thanks, Kimmy

Hey Kimmy! Mine were regular breakouts. They weren’t cystic. I’ve heard that kind of acne is so tough, girl. I totally understand your hesitation. I would look through all of the ingredients of these products. What I love about them is how they are all anti-aging probiotic formulas but, you know what is best for your type of skin more than me so I’d say try it but, again, totally understand the hesitation! 🙂 Also, the grey dress is linked at the bottom of the post! xo.

I LOVE the fact that you posted a picture of yourself without foundation on. I had issues with acne for years and actually went through two rounds of acutane. Good times. I see so many pictures of “skin care regimens” where the person is obviously wearing a full face of makeup for a picture of them putting on a moisturizer or something similar. Thanks for being authentic and honest. Love ya for it!

Hi! New to your blog and loving the articles I’ve read so far! I was reading through your Q&A post and clicked on a link to this article. How do you incorporate an SPF product into your morning routine? I think you mentioned in the Q&A that you used an Alastin? How does that compare? I’m 20 so not really working about aging right now but am trying to be more cautious about my sun protection. Would you still recommend the TULA night cream?
