With the huge storm rolling through the Southeast and chilly temperatures being felt everywhere else, I felt like there was no better time than now to share five simple and easy tips to combat dry skin this Winter!
Implement proper shower etiquette.
There actually is a ‘right’ way to take a shower during the cold weather months and it’ll be your first step to preventing dry and chapped skin. Here’s what you need to do:
• Use warm water rather than hot water.
• Use a gentle cleanser sans any fragrances.
• Limit your shower to 5 to 10 minutes.
• Blot your skin dry versus wiping vigorously.
• Apply moisturizer to face and body immediately after drying skin.
Use creams & ointments vs. lotions.
Lotions have a tendency to not be as effective as creams and ointments in locking in the moisture that your skin so desperately needs this time of year. Pay attention the ingredients in these products. Ingredients like shea butter, olive oil, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, jojoba oil and dimethicone all help soothe dry skin. Personally, I love using TULA’s Aqua Infusion Oil-Free Gel Cream and Hydrating Day & Night Cream. Together, these provide my skin with tons of hydration and relieve redness and irritations. I’ve been using their Night Cream before bed for the last couple of years now and don’t see myself quitting it anytime soon! I absolutely love what it does for my skin!
Carry a moisturizing hand cream with you + use after every hand wash!
For those days that seem like a marathon, keep a small pouch with your essentials in it in your handbag is so helpful! One thing I always have in mine is TULA’s Moisture Locking Shea Butter Hand Cream! It’s thick, extremely moisturizing and has saved my skin so many times on my cold weather travels! The key is to apply the hand cream immediately after washing your hands and gently patting your hands dry.
Wear lip balm.
Our hands and our lips are the most delicate areas on the body so not only do you need the hand cream but you need lip balm, as well. I have been using this Sara Happ Lip Balm lately and it works SO well! I don’t love the way it smells but as long as it works, I’m fine with it. I love that it leaves my lips a nice pale pink color, as well. If you want something with SPF in it, I love this option and used it a ton when I lived in Colorado back in 2012.
Wear gloves!
My last tip is to wear gloves as much as you can, most especially after you put on hand cream and you’re immediately going outside afterwards! You often notice dry skin on your hands before you notice it anywhere else and putting your hands in a small, warm and concealed environment to allow that hand cream penetrate and actually work is key!

I’m only 31 but after having two kids I thought my new fine lines and creases might just be a consequence of being pregnant and here to stay. Enter Tula. I had heard about Tula from multiple bloggers but was a bit wary of the price and not convinced it would be THAT great. I absolutely love Tula’s Pro-glycolic 10% Ph Resurfacing Gel! After being at the lake all summer I noticed sun damage for the first time. Within a couple weeks of using the resurfacing gel, all the sun damage vanished! Also, as of this morning, I tried a sample of the Dual-Phase Skin Reviving Treatment Pads and it was a complete game changer! The winter cold and dryness has really gotten to my skin, but within 5 minutes of using this product, it was restored to a beautiful glow. I literally can’t stop touching my face. It feels so moisturized and soft! As of products I am really interested in trying, I would say either the Exfoliating Treatment Mask or the Multi-Spectrum Eye Renewal Serum. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them!

I purchased my first Tula products about 3 months ago after seeing you rave about it multiple times. I was nervous because I my skin can be very sensitive (especially in the winter months). I absolutely love Tula. When I hit my mid-20s, I started experiencing really bad breakouts for the first time in my life. Since using Tula these breakouts have completely disappeared! I especially love the facial cleanser and the oil free gel cream.

I just recently bought a few TULA products and I’m loving them. I have very dry skin and this the first and only cleanser I’ve ever used that doesn’t make my skin feel dry and tight afterwards. The keifer cleansing oil is also amazing at taking makeup off!
I’ve been using the purifying cleanser since February thanks to your recommendation and love it! Also love their day and night cream! Next I want to try the aqua infusion gel cream because my skin definitely needs it this time of year!

I absolutely love the super hydrating cream! My skin is susceptible to getting dry patches. Even on my face. More around the chin area. This is the only product I have tried that gets rid of it! I recently moved to Salt Lake and the dry air here and the harsh cold (especially when up on the mountain) is like something I haven’t experienced before! Add that onto the insane amount of hand washing I do as a nurse I could probably benefit from adding in some Tula products into my regimen.

I bought one of the Tula Holiday kits (face wash, resurfacing gel, day & night cream) about a month ago after seeing it on your blog! I can’t say enough about this combination – it leaves my skin feeling fresh and hydrated and works really well with my combination skin. I’ve already recommended Tula to friends and family – and would love to try out the eye cream and maybe some of the items from the Kefir oil line. Thanks again for sharing awesome finds (that are in a good price point, and that actually work! 🙂 I do have one question about the Tula products – do they have a shorter shelf like because of the probiotic aspect?
