Trend To Try: Wide Leg Trousers

Happy Friday, ladies! I hope you all are having a wonderful week. John and I are headed home soon from the Lake District, and can’t wait to tell you all about it. I plan to write a blog post detailing our trip, and all the spots you must check out, should you ever visit!

Now onto all things fashion. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really settled into my own personal style. I don’t really care if it’s trendy or not, and I gravitate towards more classic pieces that compliment my undertones, body type and overall personal style. I’ve always loved wide leg trousers. And as of lately, they’ve become what is considered a “trend.” So today, I’m sharing a trend to try – wide leg trousers. Plus ways you can style them.

What Are Wide Leg Trousers

As the saying goes, all things come back around. And that’s the situation with me with wide-leg trousers. I enjoy styling them for both casual and workwear-appropriate looks. But they haven’t always been considered trendy.

Wide leg trousers should fit well through the hips and thighs. But they have a wide opening throughout the entire length of the leg. Therefore, they’re ultra flattering to wear on a variety of body types, and make your legs look longer.

How to Style Casually

With this look, I styled a black and cream striped sweater with the trousers. The exact one I’m wearing is sold out. However, I found similar options HERE and HERE. With the sweater, you can layer a button down or under sweater ruffle top to elevate the look even more.

The specific trousers I’m wearing are from River Island. What I love most about these is that they have a concealed zipper and button. With this feature, it gives the front of the pants a seamless and smooth look. They’re mid-rise and have an elastic waistband in the back. I’m all for that, especially if you’re going to be sitting in them often. Additionally, these come in four other colors!

To complete the look, I styled them with Gianvito Rossi Piper 85 Suede Ankle Boots. They have a pointed toe, which gives the illusion of an elongated leg and also has a covered heel, which makes them have a more dressy look and feel to them. Because they have a chunky heel, they’re way easier to walk in too!

How to Style for Workwear

These trousers are really the only wide leg trousers you need because you can go from dressy to casual, easily. If you wanted to wear them to work, I would recommend layering a sleeveless bodysuit underneath a blazer. Then, finish the look with pumps.

For a more business casual look, pair a long sleeve shirt, like THIS ONE, and layer a longline cardigan over the top. You can complete the look with mules.

If there’s a clothing piece in your closet that you absolutely love, but isn’t considered “trendy”, still wear it! Understanding your own personal style is important because you want to be comfortable in the clothes that you wear, and you should be able to express yourself with your style.
