I don’t have an About Me, so I thought it would be fun to do a “10 Things About Me” post for my birthday. Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions. Y’all know I’m a pretty open book.
1. I go by my middle name. // My name on most all social media platforms is @Alyson_Haley … however, I do not go by Alyson. I go by Haley. Alyson is my first name, Haley is my middle name, and I’ve always gone by my middle name. I set up all of my social media platforms before I had a blog. Anyone who followed me knew me personally, so they knew that it was my first and middle name. Now, I think it really confuses people, so …. sorry, guys. Ha.
2. My best friend is my dog named Fish. [I know most of y’all know that but I have to include it, or I would feel bad. I couldn’t ever leave him out.] I used to work at a vet when I was finishing nursing school and a lady came in with a pup who had been abandoned in her neighborhood. I told her I would foster him for the weekend because I lived at the beach with three other girls at the time and figured he would have fun and get lots of loving. Well, almost five years later, Fish is still with me. We never found his owner, and I don’t know how anyone could have ever abandoned him but I’m glad that he ended up in my hands. He brings me so much joy.
3. I’m a really picky sleeper. I can only fall asleep on my stomach, at the edge of my bed, without a pillow. Time of day does not matter, though, and once I’m out … I’m almost certain I could sleep through an earthquake.
4. I’m never on time, because I think it takes 5-10 minutes to get everywhere … when I actually live in the most spread out city in the country. [Jacksonville is the largest city landmass-wise in the contiguous United States.]
5. I’m in the top 100 of my optometrist’s blindest patients. My contact prescription is -10.0 and -10.5. So, if you were to rub Vaseline on your eyes and try and see out of them is pretty much how I see normally, without my contacts. #luckyme #pleasedontdothat
6. I haven’t had a TV in my room in over three years. // My Dad’s girlfriend gifted me a TV to put in my room when I moved into a new place recently. It’s the first one I’ve had in my room in over three years. There have been countless hours spent working on the blog in my room throughout the last two and I can only imagine how much less I would have gotten done if I had had a TV distracting me. It makes me wonder what amazing things would be out there if we all took a three year break from TV. I bet you would blow your own mind.
7. I am more of an introvert than an extrovert. I don’t get nervous or anxious in social settings, but I wouldn’t say I seek them out willingly. When I am around a large number of people for hours on end, I don’t mind it but tend to get “people-d out” after awhile and need to recharge, away from the hustle and bustle. I’ve never minded being alone and I feel like it’s where I get my energy.
8. Favorites: Mac & Cheese, Love Actually, Princess Kate, Pastel Pink, Cobalt Blue, Turquoise, Dolly Parton, Friday Night Lights, The Monkey Emoji’s, White Bedding, The Beach, Summer, Steel Magnolias, Men with Scruff and Long Hair, Palm Trees, Iced Coffee, Forehead Kisses, Thoughtful Text Messages, The Sound of Water Flowing, Leopard Print, Breakfast, Dance Parties, Pinot Gris, Champagne, Transparency, Hugs, Country Music, Worship at Church, Love, Memories of Mom, Chips & Queso, Feeling Thought Of, Sunshine, Long Drives, Sleeping In, Jimmy Fallon
9. I’m a night owl. [It’s currently 1:03AM]
10. Jesus Christ is my Savior. I’m thankful to know Him and to be able to feel and see Him working in my life. When it’s harder to see what He’s doing, I’m thankful for His provision and mercy and grace, and for my faith in His perfect plan for me. But, just because I stand firm in all of this … I am far from perfect. We are all a work in progress. And that’s okay. If you’re in the same boat, I hope you know it’s okay, too.
Thanks for spending a little bit of my birthday with me. You add so much joy to my life! xo.
