babydolls & pom-poms

Why do I have to be so inclined to buy baby doll dresses?
Pair the assumption that most people have of me, that I’m 14-years old,
with a baby doll dress and, Houston, we’ve got problems!
I get stares and weird looks.
I get asked if my parents know I’m skipping my AP U.S. History class.
I get asked if I have any experience babysitting.
“If so, how much do you charge? Are you available Friday night to take care of my 2-year-old?”
And, I guess I really can’t blame them because, um …
this dress was picked up in the girls department at Old Navy.
For $8.00.
Do you ever notice how when people compliment your looks, or even your personality,
they tend to use the same adjectives?
I was looking at these pictures, trying to find a word to describe this look,
and what I came up with made me laugh.
I am constantly described as ‘cute’: “Aw, I love Haley! She is so cute!”
(I’m generalizing. I am not completely delusional, thinking everyone and their mom loves me.)
Girls tend to strongly dislike being called ‘cute’.
So, I should detest that but looking here … it seems I’m embracing it.
I even decided to play up the baby doll, girliness of this dress
with pearls and neutral accents and a bright pink lip gloss.
I’m almost mad at myself now, but I am who I am.
But, isn’t that funny?

ABOVE ALL ELSE:
There are people waking up with absolutely nothing this morning
in a bed that was cold, uncomfortable, and not their own.
Some are missing loved ones … spouses, relatives, children, pets,
and are uncertain of how to start to rebuild their lives.
Please, please consider donating to the American Red Cross
in the wake of yesterday’s absolutely horrifying tragedy in Oklahoma:

With LOVE & sequins,
