When I put together an outfit,
eighty percent of the decision is based on comfort
and the other twenty percent is based on creativity.
(Note: Those percentages are approximations and
change based on mood and occasion)
It’s been warm here recently with a mild chill in the air,
but I’m tired of wearing pants,
so I decided to create an outfit around an old black maxi,
that has truly stood the test of time
and I basically live in in the summer time.
Mixing prints is an everyday occurrence for me.
There is just something about
juxtaposition
that catches my eye
and makes me happy.
Leopard is what I consider my “print neutral”.
It goes with everything,
and therefore,
you can find these shoes on my feet (almost) everyday.
Aside from these flats, though,
you can throw a leopard cardigan or scarf over anything:
a striped tee,
a gingham button-up,
a plain maxi dress,
and there you go …
a seemingly well-thought out
outfit that took you two seconds.
I personally love the buffalo check print
and the little pop of leopard in this outfit,
I think the colors in both patterns really compliment each other.
Speaking of buffalo check,
how amazing is this print?
It was everywhere this past holiday season.
It’s totally masculine,
which I think is why I love it so much.
It’s kind of like you’re wearing your boyfriends shirt
but really it’s your own,
which, for a single girl,
like myself,
really just solidifies that independent spirit we gain over time!
(Pshh! I don’t need a man’s shirt! I’ve got my own!!)
Have you noticed how much men inspired
women’s fashion we have going on these days?
Buffalo check.
Leather jackets.
Combat boots.
Military vests.
I personally love it.
Hello!! It gives me more options!
You can either go for the more boyish look,
or you can girly it up a bit,
which is what I did here
with wearing the shirt over a dress,
knotting up the shirt
and then layering it with multiple pearl necklaces.
I think pairing masculine-driven prints and styles
first with feminine pieces can make the transition
for some ladies a little bit easier.
If some of these styles are ones you want to pull off
but aren’t sure how,
try that tip first.
Play around with it!
Here I go,
being risky again.
These photo’s were taken
in an old abandoned
allegedly haunted
super creepy
frequently squatted in
school.
-cue ghostbuster’s theme song-
“I ain’t afraid of no ghost”
Hope y’all are having a wonderful week so far!

Thank you, Julia!! Your blog looks great, as well!! Thanks for reading!
Thank you for reading and your kind words! Glad you like it! 🙂
Yes! Take note of how I styled the buffalo check shirt, which definitely has a masculine edge like other plaid shirts do, but if you pair it with things that are more feminine (i.e. the dress and the pearls), it kind of takes away some of that lumberjack/farmer feel. Try pairing one of your plaid shirts with a fun statement necklace and puffer jacket to help beat that Nashville chill 🙂
I love plaid, but always feel like I look like a farmer or a lumberjack when wearing plaid shirts. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?
I'm loving your blog!! So glad you started one your style is just perfect!
This is fabulous! I love it with the pearls too! And I agree that leopard is the neutral!
I'm enjoying your blog! Come check me out and follow when you get a chance!
