Hey y’all! I’m so excited to finally share this post. I know so many of you have asked for it, so I hope it serves you well! I will tell you … I am no hair expert, and there are probably things I should be doing to take better care of my hair. [If my hair dresser was reading this, she would be nodding her head right now] These photo’s and video are just to share with you all how I personally do my hair after I wash it, which is FAR from every day. You asked, so I wanted to answer but I just don’t want to con you in to believing I’m a hair expert by any means! Regardless, I hope you enjoy!
PROCESS: WET TO DRY
For the past year or so, I’ve used the T3 ‘Featherweight’ Luxe 2i’ hair dryer to dry my hair after I’ve shampoo’ed and conditioned my hair. I typically don’t get my hair wet in between washes, unless I do a rare weekly conditioning treatment, because I don’t particularly like the way my hair feels after. After I get out of the shower, I brush my hair with a Wet Brush [get at a local beauty store] then spray Aveda ‘brilliant’ damage control in my hair to protect it from heat damage, spray Sally Hershberger’s Root Envy at my roots to add volume to my hair when I blow-dry it with a ceramic round brush, and then smooth drybar’s The Chaser Shine Cream through it to keep it from lacking luster when it’s dry!
PROCESS: DRY STYLING
The T3 Curling Wand replaced my old styling wand [used in this hair post] when I felt like that one wasn’t heating up as well as it used to. I was excited to try something new and was really impressed with how well it curls my hair, as well as the different barrel options it came with to achieve different looks! I typically use the 1-inch barrel, as seen in the video.
The technique I’ve used to curl my hair, though, hasn’t changed since high school [12 years ago, wow..] and, up until about 2-3 years ago, I used a Conair curling iron from Target. I think they go for, like, $17-20? They honestly work JUST FINE if the T3 is out of your price range. Just don’t use the clip on the curling iron, and just wrap your hair around the barrel instead. You’ll get the same style curl 🙂
These sprays are my ride-or-die for when I’m curling my hair and setting my curls. I love them both because they smell really good and doesn’t make my hair really sticky.
Once my hair is dry, I do a number of different things to it. I love to use Kiehl’s Creative Wax to accentuate pieces of my curls and help keep flyaway’s in check. I, sometimes, tease my roots with a tease comb to get even more volume [My hair is kind of fine so it’s always lacking in this department! The more product I use the better to achieve this look!] Moroccan Oil has been in my daily hair routine for quite some time. I apply it starting an inch below the root to the tips of my hair three to four times a week just to add a little more hydration and shine to it!
FAQ’S:
How often do you wash your hair?
Every 5-6 days depending on what I’m doing and where I am! If I’m in the sun, water or getting my hair extra dirty through outside elements [beach, boating, etc] … I will wash it after. Typically, though, I like to go longer because my hair styles better and looks better in my opinion.
How is it possible for you to go that long without washing it?
I’ve probably trained my hair through using dry shampoo. My favorite is Batiste and you can get it at your local beauty supply store. Except … don’t use the one for Brunette hair … it leaves this grimy powder all of your hands.
What shampoo & conditioner do you use?
I typically use Aveda Color Conserve Shampoo and Conditioner! Smells so yummy and keeps my color lasting longer!
Do you use any hair supplements?
I use to take biotin. It makes your hair grow faster. I don’t take it anymore because, honestly, I’m bad at remembering to take them everyday. But, if you’re looking for something, that’s what I would recommend.
Where do you buy your hair products?
Would I surprise you if I said Nordstrom? Probably not, but that’s the answer They have such a wide variety and I can buy them all in one place! Plus… as always, free shipping and returns if something doesn’t work as well as I had hoped!
What does your colorist do to your hair?
My hair stylist, Sami, says that she keeps my roots at a base color 4 [warmer darker base] and then adds a gradient fade to a neutral and caramel blonde! If you’re looking for something similar to what I have in mind, that’s what you should tell your stylist 🙂
Who colors your hair?
Sami Skinner at RIO Hair Studio in Jacksonville, FL. Their phone number is 904-733-8495! It takes a couple weeks to get in with Sami but, once you do, you’ll receive a discount when you tell her I referred you! xo.
