Florida girl.

Well, hello hello! First thing’s first, I’ve missed you, and I’ve missed blogging.
I won’t bore you with why I’ve been away but rather, I’d like to thank you for your support
and for engaging on my social media platforms, like Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram,
and emailing me your own personal style questions, since my last post.
You all are so wonderful, and you always make my day just a little bit brighter, so thank you.

Some of you may know, but for those that do not, Florida is my home state.
I couldn’t be happier to call it home. This state has my heart,
and, let me tell you, I am a Florida girl through and through.
.// I don’t mind humidity.
.// I can lay in the sun for hours, a true heliophiliac (adj.): a person who has an
extreme attraction to sunlight. (I knew you were probably going to Google it. You’re welcome.)
.// Being a witness to summer storms rolling in at the beach is one of my favorite sights to see.
.// I consider time spent at the beach, listening to the waves, free therapy.
.// I love sunrises over the ocean, even though that only happens once a year because the Lord did not make me a morning person.
.// I love sunsets over the marsh, with salt in the air and palm trees in view.
.// Speaking of palm trees, I think it would be weird to not see them all the time.
.// Fresh seafood is always an option and, to me, that’s always a good thing.
.// I don’t think twice about seeing alligator tail or frog legs on a restaurant menu.
.// I was raised in a Florida State household, but I cheer for the Gators,
which can make for interesting Saturday’s in the Fall at Momma’s house.
(There’s just nothing better than the SEC. Let’s just call it like it is.)
.// I’d rather beach cruise down A1A than mountain bike any day.
.// I like for the amount of warm weather months to outnumber the cold weather months.
.// I feel a great amount of comfort in the knowledge that there’s always a Publix,
the greatest grocery store known to man, within 10 miles of wherever you are in this state.
We don’t have it all but, being that I’ve been here for 96% of my existence,
I know for a fact we have a lot of things that some people wish they had even just sometimes.
I first saw these Home T’s on Instagram, particularly from my Texas friends.
(Let me tell you, if I weren’t from Florida, I’d want to be from Texas.
I am always enamored by the amount of pride Texans have about being from Texas.
I think we should all be proud of where we call home, like them.)
Anyway. Because of my love for my home state, I decided that I HAD to have one of these shirts.
I did a little bit of digging and found The Home T‘s website.
While I perusing their site, after purchasing my ‘home tee’,
I was so happy to see that a portion of my purchase will go to benefit multiple sclerosis research.
Some people might not know this but I do have a full-time job as a registered nurse,
with a passion for taking care of people with neurological ailments and diagnoses.
Multiple sclerosis is an irreversible neurological condition in which your body’s immune system
eats away at the protective layer surrounding your nerves,
causing an interference in the communication of these nerves with your brain and spinal cord.
This can cause a multitude of debilitating symptoms, such as: tingling or pain throughout the body,
decreased vision, unsteady gait, and numbness or weakness in one or more limbs.
I’ve seen first hand what this progressive disease can do to a person.
I think the generosity of company’s, like The Home T, is extremely commendable,
and it gives me just another reason to be proud to sport my ‘home tee’.
I want to encourage y’all, whether you know someone with this disease or not,
but most especially if you do, to do humanity a favor and buy yourself a Home T!

“Imagine one side of your face going numb.
You touch it, and it’s cold and tingly.
Then you’ve got the staggering when you try to walk.
People think: ‘This guy is drunk or something.’
It’s not that. It’s just Multiple Sclerosis.”
