Hi friends! While we have only just said goodbye to the holidays, I know there HAVE to be some of you that are already dreaming up your next chance to get away. Am I right? Are you one of those people? I know I am! When you take these getaways are, of course, determined by so many different factors but where is completely dependent on recommendations you’ve gotten from friends and family or inspiration from Instagram, magazines, etc. So, since last year was such a big travel year for me – the biggest, actually – I thought I’d chime in with three travel destinations for you to consider for 2020!
BARBADOS
In June, John and I ventured down to Barbados for our first vacation together. I haven’t spent a ton of time in the Caribbean but the island of Barbados made me question why. The beaches are amazing. The food was out of this world. And, the people couldn’t have been kinder. So, if you’re looking for a nice little tropical getaway in 2020 … I highly recommend Barbados. More information about our trip can be found HERE! If you need some tips on what to pack, check out this packing list I shared!
CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA
Cartagena, Colombia was where me and Whitney, my best friend, ventured for my birthday trip. I don’t normally go anywhere for my birthday but I couldn’t have picked a more perfect destination. Cartagena is a hidden gem that I hope doesn’t ever become spoiled by instagram popularity. It is a color lovers dream and a great getaway for anyone looking for lots of hot restaurants and beautiful escapes. I outlined everything you need to know about this destination in the Colombia travel guide! There are multiple posts that will help you plan what I can almost guarantee will be an unforgettable vacation!
SANTA MARGHERITA, ITALY
Italy is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I truly believe the good Lord took a little extra time designing that country. It has so much variety – oceans, mountains, cities, beautiful countryside, etc. Many want to prioritize Rome, Venice and Florence and I’m not saying I don’t understand why. I do. But, if you’re looking to go somewhere that has a bit of a slower pace than the big tourist hubs, I’d highly recommend Santa Margherita, Italy. It is located in the Liguria region of the country, which is known as the Italian Riviera. It is the origin of pesto and draws millions of visitors a year thanks to those famous five coastal towns, known as Cinque Terre.
But, if you stay a little further down, not far from the large city of Genoa, you will find a quieter, charming town that was the home base for a friends’ wedding weekend over the Summer. It is a popular Summer getaway location for Italians that, it seems, many Americans haven’t discovered yet. So, you’ll feel like you can actually breathe and relax as you walk around because there’s room. You will walk by cafe’s and they will be full of either locals or vacationing Italians. It is probably the most authentically Italian place I have traveled to. You can take day trips to charming towns like Portofino and Camogli. You can sunbathe in countless places along the coastline. It’s full of vibrant colors and delicious food, as well. It’s a trek to get there [I recommend flying into Genoa, if possible, or take the train from Florence or Rome, depending on which one you get a better flight into] but well worth it. I promise. It’s absolutely stunning.
If you would like some recommendations for some domestic trips, I’d recommend Miami and Charleston. But, I’m not going to lie … I still have so many amazing places on my list for the U.S. I’ve never been to Tahoe, Scottsdale, New Orleans, or Nantucket. All of those places sound so lovely and fun for so many different reasons so those would be my pick if you were to ask me! 🙂 What place is on your list for this year? Or, what places would YOU recommend as a travel destination in 2020? Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for stopping by! xo.
